beach profiling

Our coastline is always changing…

Human use of our fragile coastline is one factor which modifies our coastal environment.

In this activity students investigate the factors that impact on sustainability and identify the different values and viewpoints held by people. They also develop their geographical inquiry skills by using maps and photographs to describe the natural environment.

This program supports the Western Australian curriculum in delivering a hands-on, practical suite of activities that build and consolidate student learning in Geography, particularly the Human Impact on Sustainability module.

After learning about some of the threats facing our fragile coastline, students will conduct their own beach profile of Hillarys Beach. After collecting the data required, students will graph their beach profile and discuss reasons for its changes over time.
