MarineDiscoveryWest was honoured as one of the three finalists in the Sustainable Management of the Environment category, in the 2008 Premier's Awards for Excellence in Public Sector Management.
Certificates to the finalists and winners of the Premier's Awards were presented by the Premier, Mr Colin Barnett MLA, at a ceremony at the Premier's Boardroom on 20 November 2008.
The Premier's Awards were instituted in 1996 and aim to educate, stimulate and inspire agencies, local government authorities and universities to strive for excellence in the delivery of their services to the community. As well as recognising and celebrating world-class achievements by those involved in the delivery of public services, the Awards play an important role in motivating agencies to become more innovative in meeting the community's needs.
The Sustainable Management of the Environment category recognises outstanding achievement toward protecting the unique Western Australian environment and balancing development with environmental sustainability.
Earlier this year, MarineDiscoveryWest won the 2008 WA Environment Award in the Coastal, Marine and Estuarine category.
Mr Michael Burke, the Coordinator of Community Education and Volunteers, said "these awards and other formal recognition of our education activities are largely due to the outstanding quality and hard work of our education staff at the NMDC and at regional locations across the state".
We encourage you to take part in our award winning marine education activities and displays by visiting the NMDC or by contacting your nearest regional community education officer.
