The NMDC reveals the variety and wonder of our marine and freshwater life in exciting, interactive and fun ways. At the same time, the centre is a hub for marine education and showcases cutting-edge research on our aquatic environment.
From 2 December 2007 until the end of January 2008, there is a free exhibition of photographs by Glen Cowans, one of Australia's premier underwater photographers.
Glen’s images show in fascinating detail the incredible patterns and textures of nature. They reveal miniscule marine life such as feather worms, only a few centimetres across, or tiny coral polyps within huge reef systems. Other photographs show underwater landscapes or the play of sunlight on a sandy seabed.
Glen's photographs can be ordered from the NMDC gift shop. These photos are printed at high quality and available as both a limited edition canvas and un-numbered matboard print. A hint of the exhibition experience can be viewed at Glen's online gallery at www.glencowans.com
If you are looking for exciting and educational school holiday activities with a marine flavour, plan a visit to the NMDC in January. Holiday activities include 'Beach Flotsam and Jetsam' for budding naturalists and 'Bare Bones Science' for budding marine biologists. Sessions will be held on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 7 January to 1 February 2008. Bookings are essential and can be made from 3 December onwards.
